Terms of Use
This policy describes what the software actually does, checked against the code that does it. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer; where that matters, it is said in the text rather than implied by a banner.

The service
Lumen is a reading app for the Bible and the Christian tradition: scripture editions, explanations bound to named sources, lessons and stories.
The contracting party is ARTHEA LLC, 131 Continental Dr, Ste 305, Newark, DE 19713-4324, United States, which is the address on the company’s Apple developer record. These terms have not been reviewed by a lawyer; everything below describes how the product actually works.
Scripture editions and attribution
The biblical texts served by Lumen are public-domain or openly licensed editions. Each is served with its name and its licence, read from the distribution itself rather than typed by us, and attribution is shown with the text. The texts belong to their editions; Lumen does not alter them.
Where an edition does not contain a book your tradition holds as scripture, Lumen names the book rather than hiding it.
Your account
Lumen works without an account. If you create one, you are responsible for the credential you use, and you can export everything attached to it, or delete it entirely, from Settings.
Your content
Your highlights, bookmarks and posts remain yours. We host them to provide the service, we do not use them to train AI systems, and you can export or delete them at any time.
Subscriptions
Lumen Deeper is an optional subscription sold through the App Store. The whole Bible in your tradition’s canon, the daily reading and the Understand layer are free and stay free.
A subscription renews automatically at the price shown before purchase unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel it in your Apple ID settings; deleting the app does not cancel it.
Refunds are handled by Apple under its own terms, not by us.
Acceptable use
Do not break, probe or overload the service, do not misrepresent your identity to it, and do not use it to infringe the rights of others.
Ensemble is a shared space. You can block and report, and content that attacks a person or a tradition is removed.
Liability and warranty
Lumen is provided as it is. We work to keep scripture accurate and verifiable, and every editorial claim is bound to a source you can open, but we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the extent the applicable law allows, ARTHEA LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of Lumen. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. ARTHEA LLC is a Delaware company, which is why that is the law named here rather than one chosen for advantage.
If you use Lumen as a consumer, that choice does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer-law rules of the country where you live. Where those rules give you more than these terms do, they win.
Your purchase itself is made from Apple, under Apple’s own terms, and nothing here changes what Apple owes you for it.
Changes and contact
We will announce material changes to these terms in the app before they take effect. Questions go to valentin@arthea.io.
