Questions

Asked plainly.

Eight things people ask before they open a chapter.

What is Lumen?

A place to read the whole Bible, hear it read aloud, understand it with its sources and pray with the hour. An app for iPhone and Android, and this site, where every chapter is readable without an account.

Which Bibles does Lumen serve?

In English: World English Bible. Every chapter is served as published, with its licence beside the text, and verified against a checksum. Bibles in other languages are one tap away, in the language menu.

Is Lumen free?

Reading, the daily reading, Understand, prayer and chapter one of every book read aloud are free, with no account. Lumen Deeper, €49.99 a year or €6.99 a month, adds the whole narrated Bible and the rest of Learn.

Who reads the Bible aloud?

One voice, recorded chapter by chapter and measured against the text. 1,402 chapters today, 81 whole books among them; a chapter not yet read says so.

Who writes the explanations?

Lumen’s editorial voice, with AI assistance, under a machine source-check: every claim must open a real reference in every served edition. A language model is never the source of truth.

Does Lumen take a side?

No. Where traditions differ, Lumen quotes their documents with attribution rather than choosing between them, and never presents theology as verified history.

What does Lumen know about me?

As little as it can. Reading needs no account, this site sets no cookies, and a page view is counted only if you say yes. Prayer is never measured.

Where can I get the app?

The download page says exactly where each listing stands; the official badges appear there the day a listing is live.
